چکیده

In our research group, we also focus on methods for automatic detection of event-related potentials in the EEG signal. We published the algorithm for event-related potential detection based on the matching pursuit algorithm in one of our previous papers. As usual, this method does not work well under special circumstances which can occur (it is a situation when the waveform of event-related potential is approximated by more than one function from the matching pursuit base functions dictionary). This paper introduces solution of this issue which is based on the self-organizing map and the connected-component labeling algorithm (it allows to group the functions related to a one kind of event-related potential to a cluster this should prevent the detection algorithm based on matching pursuit from the fault described

Time-Frequency Data Reduction for Event Related Potentials: Combining Principal Component Analysis and Matching Pursuit

Joint time-frequency representations offer a rich representation of event related potentials (ERPs) that cannot be obtained through individual time or frequency domain analysis. This representation, however, comes at the expense of increased data volume and the difficulty of interpreting the resulting representations. Therefore, methods that can reduce the large amount of time-frequency data to...

Model-based Matching Pursuit - Estimation of Chirp Factors and Scale of Gabor Atoms with Iterative Extension

By definition, the Matching Pursuit algorithm with constant (or “flat”) Gabor atoms provides a coarse estimate of frequency modulated sinusoids in music and voice signals. Chirped Gabor atoms, closer to the nature of these signals, would fit them in a finer and sparser way. Though a method for the direct analytic estimation of chirped Gabor atoms has been proposed in the past [1], the present a...

Goodwin & Vetterli : Matching Pursuit and Atomic Signal Models

The matching pursuit algorithm can be used to derive signal decompositions in terms of the elements of a dictionary of time-frequency atoms. Using a structured overcomplete dictionary yields a signal model that is both parametric and signal-adaptive. In this paper, we apply matching pursuit to the derivation of signal expansions based on damped sinusoids. It is shown that expansions in terms of...

Matching Pursuit with Asymmetric Functions for Signal Decomposition and Parameterization

The method of adaptive approximations by Matching Pursuit makes it possible to decompose signals into basic components (called atoms). The approach relies on fitting, in an iterative way, functions from a large predefined set (called dictionary) to an analyzed signal. Usually, symmetric functions coming from the Gabor family (sine modulated Gaussian) are used. However Gabor functions may not be...

Harmonic decomposition of audio signals with matching pursuit

We introduce a dictionary of elementary waveforms, called harmonic atoms, that extends the Gabor dictionary and fits well the natural harmonic structures of audio signals. By modifying the “standard” matching pursuit, we define a new pursuit along with a fast algorithm, namely the Fast Harmonic Matching Pursuit, to approximate N-dimensional audio signals with a linear combination of M harmonic ...
